UNL awards more than $13.7 million in scholarships to Nebraska freshmen
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln awarded more than 1,800 scholarships to 2011 Nebraska high school graduates who are enrolled at UNL this fall. The total potential value of the scholarships is more than $13.7 million.
The awards include 27 Chancellor's Scholarships, 361 Regents Scholarships (including 115 Nebraska Top Scholars), 101 Nebraska Achievement Scholarships, 77 David Distinguished Scholarships, 699 James H. Canfield Scholarships, 50 Chancellor's Leadership Class scholarships, 36 Pepsi Scholarships and 374 University Honors Program textbook scholarships.

Area musicians in CSC band concert this week
Musicians from the area will be among those performing in the Chadron State College music department's combined concert featuring the Wind Symphony, CSC's top concert band, and the Chadron Community Symphonic Band, which consists of both students and community members.
The concert, which features a total of 71 musicians, will be Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the ballroom of the CSC Student Center. Admission is free.

Area students selected for CSC's High Plains Festival
Students from the region have been selected to participate in the 39th annual Chadron State College High Plains Band and Choir Music Festival on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 7-8.
Each of the 232 students was selected for one of the event's four groups by submitting audition tapes last fall. The groups are honor band, honor choir, girls' choir and festival band.
During the event's second day, the groups will perform a concert at 5 p.m. in Memorial Hall. It is open to the public free of charge.

CSC students earn academic honors
Students from the region were among the 564 names on the Chadron State College academic honors lists for the spring 2010 semester. A total of 225 students were named to the president's list, which requires straight A's. An additional 339 achieved the dean's list, which requires a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students must be enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework during the semester to qualify.

Outstanding student musicians perform at CSC
The region is well represented among Chadron State College's outstanding student musicians.
Following are students from the area who were among the nine musicians performing solos during the CSC Music Department's Honors Recital on Sunday, Feb. 7, in the Chicoine Atrium of the Sandoz Center.

Area music students selected for Chadron State festival
High school students from the region have been selected to participate in the Chadron State College High Plains Band and Chorus Festival on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 2-3. Following two days of rehearsals, the students will present a concert at 5 p.m. Tuesday in CSC's Memorial Hall.
Students auditioned for parts in the festival's four ensembles by submitting recordings last fall. Members of the CSC music faculty selected the participants.
In all, 280 students from 28 high schools within a 200-mile radius of Chadron are participating in the annual event.
